About Us
Wabshkaa Animkii Benesii is an after-school program with a strong emphasis on land-based teachings, culture, and Indigenous traditions. Our program's main goal is not only to teach about cultural knowledge, but to provide a safe and inclusive space for children. This is a great space to share our journey, the dedicated team behind the program, and the unique approach we take in delivering our cultural immersion services. We are different from other programs as we focus on fostering a deep connection with the land and Indigenous traditions, creating a one-of-a-kind experience for the children.
Esther Maud
Founder-Director
As the Founder-Director of Wabshkaa Animkii Benesii (The WAB After-School program), Esther Maud’s journey is not just about business growth – it’s a mission driven by the heart. Esther hails from Skownan First Nation but has dug her roots for her after-school program in Thunder Bay, Ontario, where she is filling the gap in cultural learning in her community.Moved by the pressing challenges surrounding the children, including her own, she decided to step in, ensuring they didn’t succumb to the pervasive negative influences.
Our Mission
At Wabshkaa Animkii Benesii, our mission is to empower children through land-based teachings and Indigenous traditions. We provide a safe and inclusive environment where young learners can explore their cultural heritage, connect with the natural world, and cultivate a sense of belonging. Through engaging programming and dedicated mentorship, we aim to inspire the next generation to honor and celebrate their identity while fostering respect for the land and its teachings.
Our Vision
Our vision is to cultivate a nurturing environment for children, rooted in trust and enriched by our cultural heritage.
