WAB Programming
At Wabshkaa Animkii Benesii (WAB), our programming is rooted in creating a safe, trusting, and culturally grounded space where children and youth can learn, grow, heal, and feel a true sense of belonging. Everything we offer is built around the importance of surrounding our young ones with safe people, strong teachings, cultural connection, and community care.
A central part of our program is our daily nutrition program, where children and youth are provided with nutritious home-cooked meals and snacks, including traditional foods such as moose meat, wild rice, fish, and bannock whenever possible. Food is more than nourishment—it is connection, comfort, culture, and a way of bringing our children back to the teachings of the land and our ways of life.
WAB also offers a wide range of cultural, creative, and land-based teachings that help children and youth build pride in who they are. This includes learning about the Seven Grandfather Teachings, the Medicine Wheel, traditional games, ceremony, sacred medicines, language, and the importance of respecting the land. Youth also take part in hands-on cultural activities such as drum making, singing, dancing, regalia making, ribbon skirts and shirts, beading, and other traditional arts and crafts.
Our program is strengthened by the guidance of Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community helpers, who share teachings, stories, and support in meaningful ways. We also create opportunities for field trips, land-based learning, physical activity, recreation, and youth leadership, helping children and youth grow not only culturally, but also emotionally, mentally, spiritually, and physically.
At its heart, WAB is more than a program—it is a place where children, youth, and families are meant to feel safe, supported, connected, and proud of who they are. We are committed to nurturing future leaders by creating the kind of space our young people can trust and carry with them for life.
Wabshkaa Animkii Benesii cultivates a nurturing space where children connect with the land and embrace Indigenous traditions, fostering a journey of cultural discovery and belonging.
